The Bus of the Future: Promoting Mobility and Connected Services

The Interactive Bus Stop can respond to the features of its location in multiple ways, at multiple scales, and in multiple time frames.

Dedicated website

The Mobile Experience Lab designed and built an Interactive Bus Stop to explore the potential of what a bus stop could be. The bus stop’s structure itself was designed as a generative model, which made it possible to quickly create iterations that were suited to specific locations. This allowed us to design not just a single bus stop, but a family of bus stops.

The Interactive Bus Stop can respond to the features of its location in multiple ways, at multiple scales, and in multiple time frames.

The Interactive Bus Stop senses its environment, provides real-time transportation information, as well as a social networking platform for the local community through a touch-sensitive screen. A low-resolution LED-ticker provides real-time traffic information, and a forum-like application for user-generated content. In this way, the Interactive Bus Stop is designed to foster communication in its neighborhood.
